I remember going with a group of friends to a brownstone in the neighborhood one night. A friend of a friend was having a bit of a get together/barbeque and we were going to stop by for a second. Front of the place looked normal, unassuming. It was an apartment building and we walked down a hall and through the back door. When I tell you that it was like we stepped into another world...Wow! The yard was huge, like it was taking up another lot. It was a lush oasis filled with trees and paths. There were little hideaways to sit, some with small meditative fountains. It was amazing. finally at the back of the property there was a barbeque area with a table and chairs. I think one day, whether I have a Brooklyn Brownstone or a place in South America somewhere, I want to create a space, an oasis to contemplate and entertain.
